YMCA Youth Sailing Program
Each summer Mathews Yacht Club partners with the Mathews Family YMCA to offer youth (ages 8-16) beginning instruction on how to sail small sailboats. The YMCA Youth Sailing Camp program is held at the Mathews Yacht Club.
Campers have access to various sailboats ranging from the standard Sunfish and Laser to larger sailboats with jib and mainsails.

This half-day program is designed to build confidence for novice sailors. Participants are taught sailing fundamentals, such as learning the parts of the boat, points of sail, rigging fundamentals, and how to safely merge from a capsized boat. As the week progresses, children put their sailing knowledge to the test, taking part in sailing races and games on the water that challenge their newly acquired skills. Class sizes are small to ensure individual attention from our experienced instructors.

The extended day allows for longer sailing trips with planned lunches at sandy beaches away from the Mathews Yacht Club and provides more opportunities for distance racing. Camp days are adjusted each week based on student sailing experiences and the weather.
